Self proclaimed King of Poetry, Willy Oeba has dropped the official lyric video of his single,The Letter, in collaboration with fast-rising songstress Babra Chege. The song was produced by Safecon Producer, Joseph Mugweru Wanja aka Safe Joe. Interestingly, all the three are former contestants of KTN’s BLAZE BYOB entrepreneurs TV show.
In the song, Oeba speaks to those who have experienced grief after the loss of a loved one.
The Letter, is a message Oeba addresses to his late father, acknowledging the key lessons he left behind and the impact they have had in his life. It starts with Babra singing the refrain.
“wewe ndiye taa, yangu kwenye giza, hekima yako baba tena na mawaidha, you live on in my mind, you live on in my heart, you will never depart.”
The legacy of those who have passed on should inspire us to live on, instead of spending too much time in a pity-party. The best way to honor their memory, is to pick the broken pieces and live our lives to the best of our abilities.
One of the lines goes: ‘”kama time is money, ambia God naomba change, for the time we spent…life gets hard at times, nawish kukujoin, but it’s my time to live, I only have this chance.”
The poetic lines of the song exhibit a lot of rhyme and provoke a lot of thought. The fusion of Oeba’s spoken word performance and the musical rendition by Ms Chege gives the song a unique taste. The song has received positive vibes from fans since it was posted on YouTube a week ago.
Oeba started off his journey in poetry while studying at Moi University and has since made notable strides in his poetic and musical careers. He looks up to the likes of Kagwe Mungai and Fena Gitu, whom he once hosted in one of his shows at the university’s radio station.
